Best Easter chocolate bunnies: Lindt vs Aldi vs M&S

The iconic Lindt Gold Bunny has been hopping onto shelves at Easter for decades, but how do cheaper supermarket chocolate bunnies compare?
To find out, we asked a panel of 103 chocolate lovers to taste and rate Lindt's milk chocolate bunny, alongside cheaper rivals from Aldi and Marks & Spencer.
It turns out, the Lindt bunny is hard to beat. It was a big hit with our tasters and their overall favourite, although M&S's Baby Bunny was hot on its heels.
And if you're looking for a budget-friendly bunny to enjoy this Easter, Aldi's cheaper version is still a good bet.

Best Easter chocolate bunnies
Lindt was rated the best bunny overall, but cheaper Easter treats from M&S and Aldi are worth considering.
Lindt Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate – 77%
£4.25 for 100g (£6.75 for 200g)

The Lindt Gold Bunny proved it's a classic for a reason, winning over our tasters with its satisfying chocolatey flavour and creamy texture.
Our panel thought it was the best-tasting bunny in our test, and more than half picked it as their favourite of the three.
However, it's also the most expensive bunny we tested. It's best to try and snap it up when it's on offer, which it usually is somewhere. We've seen the 100g bunny in some supermarkets for around £3.50.
100g bunny available from Asda, Co-op, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose.
200g bunny available from Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose.
M&S Swiss Milk Chocolate Baby Bunny – 76%
£3 for 100g

This brightly coloured Swiss chocolate bunny from M&S was only just behind Lindt overall.
The majority of our panel liked the taste of the chocolate, and thought it was sweet and creamy. Just over a quarter said it was their preferred Easter treat.
It looks great unwrapped too, with some nice extra carved details. It got the thumbs up from our tasters, who rated its appearance higher than Lindt.
It's cheaper than Lindt too, so is a good middle-ground option with a different look for those wanting a colourful change from the classic Gold Bunny.
Available from Ocado and M&S (in-store only).
Aldi Specially Selected Milk Chocolate Bunny – 72%
£1.99 for 100g

If you're after a cheap and cheerful bunny to enjoy this Easter, the milk chocolate treat from Aldi is a good-value option – and less than half the price of the Lindt Gold Bunny.
It may have come in third overall, but Aldi's bunny was still rated well by our tasters. Most of our panel were happy with its appearance, and they also liked the sweetness and taste of the chocolate.
It did, however, score lower than the others for creaminess, with nearly a third of our tasters saying the chocolate wasn’t creamy enough.
Available from Aldi.

How we tested Easter chocolate bunnies
All the chocolate bunnies were blind-tasted and rated by a panel of 103 people in February 2025 at our specialist taste-test lab.
We recruited tasters who regularly buy and eat chocolate, and they broadly represented the demographic profile of adults in the UK (age range, gender split and more).
The taste test was blind, so our testers didn’t know which brand they were trying. They tasted the chocolate bunnies in a rotated order to avoid any bias. Each tester had a private tasting booth so they couldn’t discuss what they were tasting or be influenced by others.
The tasters rated the flavour, aroma, appearance and texture of each chocolate bunny, and told us what they liked and disliked.
The overall score was based on:
- 50% flavour
- 20% texture
- 15% appearance
- 15% aroma
These weightings are based on what people ranked as the most important attributes when tasting chocolate bunnies. All our results are checked and analysed by our in-house statistical team.

Cheapest chocolate bunnies for Easter 2025 - other supermarket options

Lindt's dark chocolate bunny is also vegan-friendly.

How much sugar is in chocolate bunnies?

Unsurprisingly, all of the chocolate bunnies we tested are classed as high in sugar, with the M&S bunny containing the most sugar, and Aldi the least, though there isn't a great deal between them.
Here's how the sugar levels compare per 100g bunny:
- M&S Swiss Milk Chocolate Baby Bunny - 57g
- Lindt Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate - 54g
- Aldi Specially Selected Milk Chocolate Bunny - 51.8g
A whole bunny is almost double the maximum daily amount of sugar recommended by the NHS, which advises that adults consume no more than 30g of free sugars a day, so bear this in mind when tucking in.
The Aldi bunny is the only one we tested that recommends a smaller 25g serving, although that's still a substantial chunk of your daily sugar intake (and more than children under 10 should have in a day).
The maximum recommended 'free sugar' levels for children per day are:
- Age 7-10 - 24g
- Age 4-6 - 19g
- Age 2-3 - 14g
- Age 1 - 10g
- Under 1 - as little as possible/no added sugar
Remember that small chocolate eggs such as mini eggs also pose a choking risk to small children (under age 4).
